NEW ORLEANS - The women's track and field team at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse moved into the top spot in the USTFCCCA Division III Coaches Indoor Track and Field Power Rankings last week. This week they retained their top status the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced.

La Crosse competed at Wisconsin over the weekend in a non-scoring meet in preparation for this weekend's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships. La Crosse is looking to defend their 2007 WIAC indoor team title.

However, conference rival Oshkosh should provide some excitement at the indoor meet as they also remained No.2 this week. The Titans traveled to Wisconsin-Stevens Point for a tune-up meet and ending up winning the event by nearly 100 points. Oshkosh snapped a string of six straight WIAC indoor titles for La Crosse in 2006. St. Thomas (MN) follows Oshkosh at No. 3 this week.

Completing the top five this week in the rankings is No. 4 Wartburg, which moved up five spots, followed by No. 5 Tufts University. Wartburg is seeking its sixth straight Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) title.

Illinois Wesleyan and North Central College are ranked Nos. 6 and 7 respectively, followed by No. 8 Washington (MO), No. 9 University of Chicago and No. 10 Augustana (Ill.).

The 2008 NCAA Men's and Women's Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 14-15, 2008 at the ONU Sports Center. Ohio Northern University is the host for the championships.

Wisconsin-La Crosse is the top-ranked Division III men's team.
