NEW ORLEANS – The Ashland University Eagles remain the top ranked team in the women’s USTFCCCA Division II Coaches Indoor Track and Field Power Rankings which was released this morning by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Ashland has been the top ranked team for three consecutive weeks now. East Stroudsburg opened up as the number one team back on January 24th, the initial release of the rankings. Coming in at No. 2 this week is Grand Valley State. The Lakers moved up nine spots in the rankings this week after a successful weekend on the track in which two Lakers automatically qualify for the indoor championships and two other athletes and a relay team provisionally qualify for the championships. Missouri Southern State and Adams State each dropped one spot this week falling to No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Central Missouri made a big leap this week in the rankings moving up 12 spots to No. 5. The Jennies hosted the Mule Relays last Thursday and had several good performances led by high jumpers Haley Morrissey and Jenna Schmidt who provisionally qualified after leaping 5’6”. No. 6 Shippensburg moved up three spots this week followed by Lewis University who dropped three places. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville made the biggest leap in the top then this week as they moved up 18 spots in the rankings. The Cougars were led by Deserea Brown who provisionally qualified for the indoor championships in two events, winning the 200-meter dash (25.35) and taking second in the 55-meter dash (7.23). Completing the top ten for the women’s Division II Coaches Indoor Track and Field Power Rankings is No. 9 Winona State and No. 10 Kutztown.
A team's total point score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Schools are responsible for submitting their own results. The 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships will be held March 14-15 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.
