The Sammamish, Wash. native won the individual title at the Division II cross country championships in November. Pixler won both the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and West Regional individual titles before winning the NCAA crown. Pixler led Seattle Pacific to a second place team finish at nationals, which was the highest finish ever for the SPU program.
Prior to the 2007 cross country season, Pixler was named the Division II USTFCCCA Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Athlete of the Year after winning the NCAA title in the 1500m outdoors and the indoor mile. She became the first Seattle Pacific freshman to win SPU's athlete of the year award and also picked up the same honor for the GNAC in 2007.
Five other Seattle Pacific teammates joined Pixler on the 2007 team: Jane Larson, Karin Rohde, Kate Harline, Lisa Anderberg and Suzanne Strickler.
The 2007 NCAA team champion, Adams State, placed four members on the All-Academic team led by seniors Tanya Gaurmer and Brittany Somers. Gaurmer finished third at the NCAA championships while Somers finished eighth overall.
All-in-all there was 203 female student-athletes from 100 Division II programs on the All-Academic team. Four student-athletes finished in the top five at the NCAA championships; Pixler-Seattle Pacific (1st), Gaurmer-Adams State (3rd), Jonel Rossbach-Emporia State (4th) and Rachelle Mallette-Wayne State (MI) University (5th). Adams State's Somers (8th) and Seattle Pacific's Larson (9th) both finished in the top ten at the national meet.
The University of Tampa led all Division II institutions on the list with seven All-Academic team members. Seattle Pacific and Kutztown each had six members on the All-Academic team. Bentley, Missouri Southern State, Nebraska-Kearney, Pittsburg State and Stonehill each had five student-athletes on the All-Academic team.
To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.
Aaron Braun of Adams State is the 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Men's Cross Country All-Academic Athlete of the Year.
