Adams State's Aaron Braun named 2007 Division II Men's Cross Country All-Academic Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS - For the second consecutive year, a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference cross country athlete has been named All-Academic Cross Country Athlete of the Year.  Adams State's Aaron Braun is the 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Cross Country Athlete of the Year, announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. 

Braun, a sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo. has a 3.7 cumulative GPA and is majoring in math education.  He was the runner-up at this year's Division II NCAA Cross Country Championships, finishing behind Abilene Christian's standout runner and four-time NCAA champion, Nicodemus Naimadu, to lead the Grizzlies to a tie for second place.  Braun also won the RMAC individual cross country title. 

Braun finished 19th at last year's cross country championship as a freshman.  Grizzly teammates Rueben Chebon-Mwei, fourth at the NCAA championships, and Antonio Martinez-Lopez also join him on the 2007 All-Academic team. 

Abilene Christian, the 2007 NCAA Division II Cross Country Champion, placed one member on the All-Academic team; Julius Nyango (third at NCAAs). 

A total of 125 male student-athletes representing 67 Division II institutions are on this year's All-Academic team.Five of those 127 student-athletes finished in the top ten at the national meet; Aaron Braun-Adams State (2nd), Julius Nyango-Abilene Christian (3rd), Reuben Chebon Mwei-Adams State (4th), Nate Peck-Grand Valley State (7th) and Scott Dahlberg-Western State (10th). 

Grand Valley State (4th at NCAAs), Colorado School of Mines (7th at NCAAs), Missouri Southern State (12th at NCAAs) and Georgia College and State University each placed four individual members on the All-Academic team.

To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.
