NEW ORLEANS - The Ashland University Eagles sit atop this week's men's USTFCCCA Division II Coaches Power Rankings poll as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. After not being in the poll in last week's rankings the Eagles moved up to the top spot this week on the strength of senior throwers Bryan Vickers and Robert Klenk. Vickers is ranked number one in the shot put with a throw of 64' ½", while Klenk leads Division II in the 35-lb weight throw (67'8"). Shippensburg University is ranked second this week with 239.22 points. The Red Raiders are making their first appearance in the 2008 rankings. Shippensburg is lead by sprinter Jamal James and freshman high jumper Leander Toney. Completing the top five are Northern State (225.19), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (224.59) and Grand Valley State (221.01). Joining fellow GLIAC conference members Ashland and GVSU in the top ten is Saginaw Valley State at number six. The 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships will be held March 14-15 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.
