NEW ORLEANS - Led by an incomparable group of sprinters, the LSU Lady Tigers continue their dominance as they are the top-ranked team in the Division I women's indoor track and field rankings released today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. LSU sophomore Samantha Henry, who has been named the SEC Female Runner of the Week in back-to-back weeks, clocked the fastest 200-meter time in the world this season in her debut as she crossed the finish line in 23.09 seconds to qualify automatically for the NCAA Championships in the event. Henry, along with teammate Juanita Broaddus, also holds the top time in the 60-meter dash at 7.26 seconds. Two other Tiger standouts, Nickiesha Wilson and Latavia Thomas are ranking one-two in the 400-meter dash, respectively. In the first regular-season rankings of 2008, LSU is followed in the top 10 by Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Mississippi, Minnesota, Penn State and South Carolina. Completing the top 20 are Florida, Memphis, Baylor, Southern Illinois, Purdue, Texas, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kansas State and Arizona. The 2008 USTFCCCA Division I Rankings are compiled strictly from the NCAA descending order lists. Rankings are compiled by Tom Lewis, assistant sports information director at Missouri. The 2008 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. Second-ranked Tennessee has the best time in the distance medley relay with a time of 11 minutes, 13.64 seconds. Super freshman Annie Alexander is ranked fourth in the shot put with a heave of 53'9 ¼". Sophomore Phoebe Wright and junior Katie Van Horn are ranked second and third in the 800-meter run and 5000-meter runs, respectively. Third-ranked A&M is led by sophomore sprinter Porscha Lucas (23.16 in the 200m dash) and triple-jumper Ashika Charan (43'6 ¼", third nationally). The Aggies also have the best 4x400-meter relay time in the country with a time of 3:35.32.
