Class of 2007

Hartzog's career started off at Northeast Louisiana in 1958 before moving onto to Southern Illinois in 1961...From his first year at SIU until his retirement, the men's track team at SIU won every Missouri Valley Conference championship meet in which they competed...Hartzog was named the NCAA Division I Coach of the Year in 1982 and 1984 and has coached numerous All-Americans during his tenure at SIU and Northeast Louisiana.

Cyrus Jones

Class of 2007

One of the most respected and successful track & field coaches in NCAA history...Has led the Lincoln Lions to 17 men's (13) and women's (4) NCAA Division III national titles...Began at Lincoln in 1974, winning his first national championship in 1985...Since 1974 Lincoln has finished in the top five at the outdoor championships 22 times with the men finishing runners-up 11 times...Jones has produced more than 300 All-Americans at Lincoln and has won the Division III National Coach of the Year award six times...Jones also serves as Lincoln's associate athletic director and is entering his 34th year at the school.

Tom Jones

Class of 2007

One of the most successful track & field teachers of his generation...Had more than 35 years of coaching experience with head coaching stops at Florida (1992-2007), Arizona State (1988-92), UTEP (1984-88) and NC State (1978-84)...Tutored 335 All-America athletes...won 12 conference championships and two national titles...Honored as the NCAA Coach of the Year three times and has won nine conference coach of the year awards; seven in the SEC...Emphasized the "team philosophy", working with all event groups on an equal level...Was inducted into the Florida Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1999...Jones passed away in March of 2007

Beverly Kearney

Class of 2007

Since taking over the Texas women's track program in 1993, Kearney has led the Longhorn's to six NCAA National Championships and 19 conference titles...Led UT to 13 consecutive top-10 finishes at the NCAA outdoor national championships and 13 top-11 finishes at the NCAA indoor national championships...She has guided 36 different Longhorn athletes to 49 national titles and 256 All-America honors...She has four National Coach of the Year awards and 14 conference Coach of the Year honors... In 2004 she was inducted into the International Women's Hall of Fame...In 2005 she received the Giant Steps Award...In 1992 she became the first black female head coach and just the second black head coach ever to win a national team title.

John Mitchell

Class of 2007

John Mitchell's coaching career spanned over 40 years...He was a high school head coach for seven years in California and an assistant coach at Kansas University from 1965-69 before taking over the helm as head coach at the University of Alabama in 1969...Mitchell was also head coach at the University of Georgia from 1989-99...He received five SEC Coach of the Year honors during his tenure at both Alabama and Georgia...In 1992 he was inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame for his reputation and stature as a coach and ambassador for the sport of track & field.

Irv "Moon" Mondschein

Class of 2007

"Moon" Mondschein holds the distinction of coaching track teams in two different Olympics for two different countries; Israel (1952) and the United States (1988)...Following his graduation from NYU he became the athletic director, head football, basketball and track coach for Lincoln (Pa.) University...Coached 13 years at the high school level...He was the assistant track coach at Penn (1965-79) and then the head coach (1979-87)...He retired from coaching in 1987 but had brief assistant stints at Villanova and La Salle before returning in 1992 as an assistant at Kutztown (Pa.) University where his son, Brian Mondschein was head coach...At age 80, "Moon" was still coaching, turning unschooled throwers and jumpers into national contenders.

Jim Sackett

Class of 2007

Involved in coaching cross country and track & field for 47 years...A tireless proponent of the sport...Has four national coach of the year awards, and was twice named the Division II National Coach of the Year...Won the 1983 men's Division II cross country championship...Owns five CCAA conference titles...Coached 12 student-athletes to national championship titles and has tutored 159 All-Americans...In 1993 was named to the Drake Relays Hall of Fame and the Western Illinois University Hall of Fame in 1997...He received the distinguished service award in 1987 from the NCAA Cross Country Coaches Association and also in 1989 and 1994 for his track & field contributions.

Karl Schlademan

Class of 2007

Guided Michigan State to five NCAA cross country titles in the 1940's and 50's...coaching tenure spanned nearly 40 years at Kansas (1919-26), Washington State (1927-40) and Michigan State (1940-58)...His cross country teams at Michigan State won six Big Ten championships...He led Washington State to seven straight Northern Division titles...Schlademan is a member of the Drake Relays Hall of Fame and also the Michigan State Hall of Fame...He was also instrumental in the founding of the Kansas Relays...He helped host the NCAA cross country championships 17 times while at Michigan State as the school hosted the meet from 1938-42, 1944-64.
